While the first fire at 86 & 88 So 13th St was being fought by Newark firefighters, the fire dispatch warble tones began to sound again. A full alarm assignment was being sent to 9th Ave and So 9th St (four blocks from the fire the NFD was working at). It was reported as a building fire at this location.
Fire fighter Joseph Cuccolo, who was off duty and was responding to the first fire, came upon this fire and immediately called it in. After making the call, he was informed thea there was an elderly woman in the residence. Without regard to his own safety and without any turnout gear, he entered through the rear door, searched and located an elderly woman and removed her to safety.
Off duty firefighter Donnell Lockhart, who was also at the first fire, observed the fire and responded in Engine 12's rig which was parked but not committed at the previous fire, and responded to the second fire.
The second fire was knocked down with a quick exterior blitz attack and then controlled with another great interior attack by NFD firefighters...
