July 1,2009 The Newark Fire Department responded to the area of the IDT Building at 520 Broad Street for a reported Transformer Explosion. On arrival an underground transformer was pushing heavy smoke with active fire. Newark FD Special Operations and Hazmat went to work on scene. PSEG was on scene was on scene. EMS reported one person was transported with burns to SBMC and two others recieved minor injuries while passing over the sidewalk grate.. The initial explosion rocked the IDT Building per occupants. The FD used a Signal 309 with Special Units assigned. | |
