Apx 0130 hours the Newark Fire Department transmitted the box for a house fire reported at 89 Norman Road In the Vailsberg Section of the city. While in route companies were advised of additional calls reporting entrapment. Engine Company 26 arrived first due with heavy fire showing from side A and B on the 1st floor of a 2.5 story wood frame duplex. BC1 transmitted the Signal 11 on his arrival putting all hands to work. Fire quickly extended to the 2nd floor and interior lines were advanced to both floors. During the Primary searches, a female victim was located in the rear yard who had jumped from the 2nd floor. She was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston with severe burns. Engine Company 6 located a male on the 2nd floor with serious burns. The man was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A firefighter Captain was also transported with burns to the hand and was treated and released. The fire is under investigation by the Newark Fire Departments Arson Squad.
