JANUARY 10,2009 The East Orange Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Elmwood Avenue on a reported garage fire. Three engines, one ladder, and the rescue was dispatched to the scene. On arrival of Engine Co.5 fire was showing from the attached garage extending to the 1st floor of an occupied 2 story wood frame dwelling. The Signal 11 was transmitted putting All Hands to work on arrival. With fire showing on the 1st floor, command struck the Second Alarm. Interior lines had the fire knocked down in 10 minutes. Extensive overhaul of the garage and 1st floor kept companies busy for a while. Firefighters also battled cold temps in the low 20s. An arson signal was placed on the fire prompting a response from the EOFD Arson Squad. | |
