IRVINGTON FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE LATE AFTERNOON FIRE. Around 1600 hours the Irvington Tour 2 was dispatched to the area of Linden Avenue & W.Avon on a reported vacant structure on fire. On arrival of DC2, a vacant 2.5 story wood frame was fully involved with no immediate exposure problems. Due to an interior collapse on arrival, command ordered an exterior attack putting master streams to work. An additional engine company plus Maplewood Engine 3-2 was special called to the scene. Heavy fire was darkened down in 10 minutes with heavy pockets of fire remaining throughout the structure. Master streams were shut down and firefighters went interior to knock out the pockets. Companies remained on scene with extended overhaul due to void spaces that were very difficult to access. Around 04:30 hours this morning, companies were dispatched back to the scene for a rekindle in the rear of the structure.
