DECEMBER 14, 2008 Irvington Fire Department responded to the area of Columbia Ave & 18th Avenue on a reported fire. Newark FD also dispatched a full assignment for a fire in the area of Columbia Ave. On arrival heavy fire involved a 2 story duplex extending into exposure B, another 2 story frame duplex. Engine 26 darkened down the exterior fire with the deck gun as companies stretched interior lines into both structures. Fire involved all floors of the main fire building with extension into the cockloft. Fire also extended to all floors of the B exposure building on the Delta Side but was quickly knocked down with inside lines. The fire was under control in apx 30 minutes with extensive overhaul of the main fire building. Mutual Aid was on scene from Union, Maplewood, and East Orange FDs. Rob Munson Photos |
