MARCH 8,2009 The City of East Orange,NJ transmitted the box for a fire reported at 267 Amherst Street. Engine Company 5 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the 1st floor side A of a 2.5 story wood frame dwelling. There was initial reports of one occupant not accounted for. DC Carl Manns arrived and transmitted the Signal 11 putting All Hands to work on arrival. Engine 5 and 1 lead off with an interior attack and knocked down the heavy fire on the 1st floor. There was auto-exposure to the 2nd and 3rd floors on side A along with vertical extension in the walls allowing the fire to travel quickly to the top floor of the structure via the B and D exterior walls. As heavy fire vented from the top floor and evacuation order was given to set up master streams to protect Exposure B an occupied 2.5 story frame. Once the exposure was protected the interior attack resumed on all floors. All searches were negative on all floors. The fire was brought under control in apx 60 minutes.
