Newark Fire Department responded to Lafayette Street on a report of a house fire. On arrival of Battalion 5 fire was showing from the 2nd floor of an occupied 3 story wood frame new construction. The Signal 11 was transmitted putting All Hands to work on arrival. Interior lines were stretched to the 2nd and 3rd floors to attack the fire.
On arrival of DC1 Chief Smith, fire involved the 2nd and 3rd floor with extension to the cockloft with an exposure problem on Side B.
DC1 Special Called and addition Signal 9 bringing an additional 2&1 to the scene. The NFD did a great job knocking down the fire and protecting exposure buildings.

Did I forget to mention it was only 10 degrees outside?
Thats right! Below Zero with the Wind Chill!
"Lots of fun to be a Pump Operator on this morning".

You can't say enough about the firefighters out there that bust their ass to save property and lives! "Great work fellas!!!"

I can't forget to mention my pals from REMCS EMS standing by across the street. EMS staged on the scene in case needed despite the freezing cold!
