East Orange Fire Department responded to 10 Park Avenue between North 15th Street and the Newark City Line on a reported structure fire. Heavy smoke was visible in the area as companies were in route to the scene. On arrival heavy fire was showing from a large 1 story warehouse apx. 300x300.
Newark Fire also had a box out for a fire in the area of Park Avenue & N.13th Street an went to work on the 15th Street side of the fire.
Command struck a 2nd Alarm on arrival as heavy fire was venting through the roof deep seated inside the structure. An interior line was stretched on side A and ordered out soon after as conditions deteriorated. Evacuation tones were sounded and master streams were set up for the exterior attack.
Loud explosions rocked the building as heavy fire extended though out the block long structure. As the fire progressed so did the alarm response from outside mutual aid departments.
A partial collapse of the Side A exterior wall forced Engine Co.2 to reposition their rig. A collapse zone was established, additional water supply was brought into the scene, and elevated master streams were put into operation on side A, B, and C. Side D was not accessible by apparatus due to a transit rail road line that was in operation.
The fire burned for a couple of hours before mutual aid was released. Mutual Aid from Bloomfield, Newark, Montclair, West Orange, Orange, and Millburn operated on scene.

No Christmas Eve dinner for the firefighters that worked this job.

Tour 1 relieved Tour 4 firefighters that rotated companies at the fire at 0800 hours today. Tour 2 still operating at this time 1121 hours with and engine and a ladder company at the scene.
