NOVEMBER 17,2008
Around 2315 hours the Roselle Park Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Chestnut Street. On arrival heavy smoke was showing from a large 2 story brick commercial with apartments above. The fire involved a pizzeria which is part of the Costa's restaurant and extended to the 2nd floor. With heavy smoke pushing from the 2nd floor, command ordered the building evacuated. Mutual Aid was requested to assist in the exterior attack to control the blaze. Heavy Fire started to vent through the roof in the rear. Union Truck 3 was set on side D for ladder pipe operations. Two tower ladders operated on side A along with several hand lines. With a little truck work in the rear to take down some wooden fences, Clark was able to squeeze an engine company between two houses and supply a 2.5 attack line and a deck gun to the rear of the fire building. The roof collapsed into the 2nd floor with heavy fire conditions through out. Firefighters operated for several hours to bring the fire under control.
