FATAL THREE ALARM BLAZE IN EAST ORANGE

East Orange Fire Department Tour 1 responded to reports of fire at 219 South Burnett Street. On arrival heavy fire was on all floors and involved the exposure house 223 next door. Three alarms were struck bringing Mutual Aid from Bloomfield, Orange, and Irvington to the scene. With reports of two occupants missing in the main fire building, searches could not be completed due to heavy fire conditions. An Interior attack was made on exposure B but firefighters had to withdraw due to deteriorating conditions. The fire was darkened down with an exterior attack. The fire which was reported just before 0600 was placed under control at 0825 hours. Tour 1 was relieved on scene by Tour 2 at 0830 hours and remained operating all day at the scene. Two Adult female victims were located late in the afternoon on the 1st floor rear. County and EO Arson was on scene to investigate the fire. 14 people were left homeless as a result of the blaze.
